Introduction

Several Steps are needed to create a component family, as follows;
Revit families can be parametric (i.e., controlled by parameters). These parameters are the framework for creating family elements. They are based on reference planes that are dimensioned and labelled.
The following video shows you how to create a parametric box using these guidelines. Although it is a simple example it should serve as a good introduction to the principles of family creation in Revit. It will demonstrate how you can parametrically control the height, width and depth of a box extrusion. You apply the same principles to complex families.
