For all Inventor LT users, you will notice that you cannot open .iam files from Inventor Professional.
Fear no more, a work around is available.
Firstly, ask the Inventor Professional user to save the .iam as a shrinkwrap, so that the assembly is saved as one big part. Open the shrinkwrap file and break the link to the main assembly, save the file.
Once done, you should be able to open this file on Inventor LT.
